Job Description

You will be expected to perform a few or multiple tasks on the job. These tasks are outlined below

Meat cutting equipment like knives, machetes, and other high-tech cutting tools will require sharpening before the start of work or during work hours.

Before large meat piles are cut into smaller sizes, it will be your responsibility to inspect them to ensure that they conform with the company and industry-wide health standards before your process.

You will be provided with the tools to cut, grind or debone meat piles according to the employer’s specifications. Processing meat based on laid down procedures and specification is vital

Before, during, or after cutting the meat to size, you may have to weigh them on a scale to ensure that they meet the approved weight specification. The meat weight may be according to the employer’s or the customer’s specifications.

Already cut meat has to be wrapped properly according to a set pattern.

You will be expected to store fully processed and wrapped meat in the freezers or storage facility under the approved temperature.

Before and after the end of a day’s work, it will be your responsibility to clean your work area before closing for the day. This task is very important to protect the work area from bacteria buildup.

Qualifications

You should be able to read and follow instructions. Here are the skills we are looking for.

You must have a deep knowledge of the standards of the industry and your employer. Knowledge about sanitary standards, labeling, and food safety standards is important.

Meat processing facilities are generally cold areas, so you need to feel comfortable working under temperatures as cold as 10 degrees. Although your employer will provide you with personal body protective clothing, the area will still maintain an above average temperature.

The ability to work long hours cleaning, cutting, inspecting, weighing, wrapping, and storing meat is crucial. Tasks can drag on for prolonged periods.

Communicating with others, such as your colleagues and supervisors, is very important. Besides oral communication, you should also be able to read and follow written instructions.

Lifting meat supplies out of supply trucks and loading them in storage requires some degree of physical fitness. You should be able to lift at least 75 kilos of meat as a bare minimum. You should also be able to lift work machinery when the need arises.

Working with little or no supervision is crucial. Once work instructions are issued, it is imperative that you follow them to the letter with minimal supervision.

Having a strong work ethic and personal motivation is an enduring quality expected of you by the employer.
